Audra McDonald is unmatched in her range and the versatility of her artistry as both actor and singer. She has been a six-time record recipient from the Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards, and the Emmy Award she received in 2015 from Barack Obama. She has a home in film, television and Broadway. Her luminous soprano is a perfect fit for the stage. Alongside performing on stage, she has built a career that includes a significant concert and record-making career. She frequently performs in the most prestigious places. McDonald was raised at Fresno California by her musical parents. They also studied classical singing at Juilliard School, New York. When she graduated, she won her first Tony Award as Best Performance by a Featured Actor in an Musical in the Lincoln Center Theater for Carousel (1994). In the following four years, she received two additional Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performance in The Broadway premier of Terrence McNally's play Master Class (1996) and the show Ragtime (1998) which gave her an unprecedented total of three Tony Awards before the age of thirty. McDonald's first role as a dramatic TV actor was with the Peabody Award-winning CBS show Having Our Say The Delany SistersThe Early 100 Years. The year 1999 saw her co-starred with Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. Also, she had regularly recurring roles on NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in the year 2000. McDonald was awarded her first Emmy for her performance as a character in the HBO remake of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit written by Mike Nichols, starring Emma Thompson. In 2003, she returned to the screen, this time with Mister Sterling produced by Emmy Award-winning Lawrence O'Donnell Jr., which starred Josh Brolin. The Bedford Diaries, a WB television show that premiered in 2006. McDonald then appeared as a recurring part on NBC's Kidnapped in the year following. McDonald got the 4th Emmy award for her performance in HBO's special film of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill in the year 2016. The Bite will be a 6-episode drama focusing on a deadly pandemic coproduced by Spectrum Originals, CBS Studios and Taylor Schilling in 2021. The year 2009 saw her debut, McDonald was the U.S. Attorney Liz Lawrence on CBS's drama about lawyers The Good Wife. In the year 2018, McDonald took on the role of Liz Reddick as a regular on Paramount+'s The Good Fight. She was awarded three Critics Choice Award nods for the role. She is currently a guest star in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which is telecast on HBO.
